ARC Podcast: An App to Ease Your Mind

07.02.25 | by ARC | Podcast

Episode 2

In our newest episode of Anxiety Unraveled, ARC Board Member Mike Maddox sits down with West Michigan Pastor and Mental Health Professional Josh Zoerhof to discuss The Worry Work App. This new tool is helping individuals find a positive way to work through moments of anxiety and stress with therapeutically proven practices.

The two talk openly and candidly about the changing world and the impact digital and social media are having on anxiety. Noting it’s not necessarily that people have more anxiety than they did 10 or even 50 years ago, but coping mechanisms have changed.

It’s easy, they discussed, to sit down with your phone at the end of a day after being exhausted and want to “numb out”. What can start as relaxation often turns into a cycle of doom-scrolling on social media.

“People are finding lots of ways to numb out and finding lots of ways to escape. Problem with it escaping … it doesn’t actually deal with the anxiety or the problem, it just gives you a break. In some cases, especially with social media and digital media, it actually increases the brain activity that you have, which your brain then in turn, translates into stress. So you think you are escaping, but what you are really doing is creating more stress for yourself,” Josh says.

Recognizing that many people have smartphones, Josh wondered if there was a way to utilize these devices as a healing tool. This led to the birth of The Worry Work App, developed by Avodah. The digital journal allows individuals to track worries, learn regulation skills, and tackle anxious moments.

We invite you to listen as Mike and Josh share a heartfelt conversation on the importance of mental health, the world we now live in, and a new tool providing anxiety relief.
