ARC Podcast: The Obsessive Mind

11.05.25 | by ARC | Podcast

Episode 4

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) can be mystifying. Why and how can the mind get stuck? What can be done? What is helpful? What does it feel like to have this disorder?

ARC Board Member Mike Maddox, who has experienced OCD in his own life, sits down with Mental Health Therapist Caroline Lowry Hall to help us better understand what it means to live with Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder.

“I knew these obsessive thoughts I was having were not ‘normal,’ that they weren’t rational, that they didn’t make sense. But that didn’t stop their power early on. That led to the compulsions, which only reinforced the power of the obsessions. Which is where the interference with your life comes in, your relationships, your work, all of it,” Mike said. “It can be very debilitating for people.”

Caroline also shares personal stories in the podcast, with permission from her clients, to help us better understand the obsessive mind. She explains how OCD is treated and the variety of treatment options that exist.

According to one of her clients, living with this disorder can be hard because no one sees the hidden pain within, “I can be having a normal conversation, but find myself struggling in my head. The other person has no idea. I can stay calm, collected. They don’t know what’s going on in my head. I’m always multitasking. It’s very lonely.”

We invite you to listen as Caroline explains what it means to have a “stuck” brain. Discover proven ways you can start “unsticking” it today.
